Waste to Gold Contest

All ages

Students are invited to submit pictures and descriptions of useful or decorative items constructed from "junk" that would be normally thrown away. There will be First, Second and Third Prizes for students up to grade 6 and one prize for an entire class. All winners and their teachers will receive the official 2011 Earth Day Ottawa Cloth bag containing surprise items.

Students from Grades 1 to 6 are invited to submit photographs and descriptions of useful or decorative items constructed from "junk" that would normally be thrown away.
Entries must be received by EDO by April 18, 2011. Entries must be accompanied with student's name, school, address of school, and contact teacher/person at school.
Children under the age of 12 who attend the Canadian Museum of Nature during Earth Month will also enter the contest.
The Earth Day Ottawa Board will judge the entries on the basis of environmental message, design and creativity. Winners will be announced on April 20, 2010. The decision of the judging committee is final.
Awards will be given out at the Earth Day Concert and Award Show on April 22nd, 2011, between 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM in the Queen's lantern of the Canadian Museum of Nature. (240 McLeod Street, Ottawa)
Winning entries will be displayed on tables close the Concert area.

Ideas for Waste to Gold:

Art work that creatively uses discarded items
Cloth items from old clothing - e.g. bags from blue jeans; cushions tops
Mobiles from any number of items
Paper mache sculptures from newsprint
Mosaics from broken pottery, dishes
Bird houses made from used wood has another environmental message - providing shelter for birds to make their nests and natural insect control

Concours De rebuts à lingots d'or

Tous les âges

Les élèves sont invités à présenter des photos et des descriptions d'objets utiles et décoratifs fabriqués à partir de vieilleries qui, normalement, auraient été jetées. Il y aura trois prix pour les élèves de 6e année et moins. Tous les gagnants et leurs professeurs recevront un sac officiel de Jour de la Terre Ottawa dans lequel ils trouveront toutes sortes de surprises.

Les élèves de la 1re à la 6e année sont invités à présenter des photos et des descriptions d'objets utiles et décoratifs fabriqués à partir de vieilleries qui, normalement, auraient été jetées.
Les inscriptions doivent être reçues par Jour de la Terre Ottawa avant le 18 avril 2011. Les inscriptions doivent indiquer le nom de l'élève, son école, l'adresse de l'école et le nom de l'enseignant ou de la personne ressource à l'école.
Les membres du Conseil de Jour de la Terre Ottawa jugeront les objets soumis selon les critères suivants : message environnemental, concept et créativité. Les noms des gagnants seront annoncés le 20 avril 2011. La décision des juges est définitive.
Les prix seront remis durant le concert le 22 avril, 2011, à l'édifice commémoratif Victoria du musée canadien de la nature (240 rue McLeod, Ottawa)
Les objets gagnants feront partie de l'exposition à l'extérieur de la salle de concert au musée.

Idées pour le concours De rebuts à lingots d'or :

Œuvres d'art fabriquées à partir d'objets jetés;
Objets en tissus fabriqués à partir de vieux vêtements - sacs à partir de jeans, d'enveloppes de coussins, etc.;
Mobiles fabriqués avec toutes sortes d'objets
Sculptures en papier mâché faites à l'aide de vieux journaux
Mosaïques faites de vaisselle ou de poteries cassées;
Cabanes d'oiseaux fabriquées à partir de vieux bois - ces objets offrent un avantage additionnel pour l'environnement, soit celui de fournir aux oiseaux un endroit où faire leur nid et de contribuer à contrôler la quantité d'insectes de façon naturelle
